Types of financial aid:

Scholarships

Usually "free" money that can come from a variety of private and public sources. Scholarships can be based on merit (what you['ve achieved) or need. They can also be based on activities, special talents, future goals and more.

Grants

Grants are sources of government funding that do not have to be paid back. The main way to access government grant money is through the FAFSA and through PHEAA.

Loans

Student loans can be trough the government (see FAFSA and PHEAA) or through commercial banks. Most banks in PA offer a Keystone line of products that are specifically for college students. Commercial student loans are much like car loans or home loans - talk to your parents and to you local banks for a better understanding of student loans.
